Why We Built This Reference
The records behind Shelby County directory research still exist even though printed county directories are scarce. The Property Tax Commissioner handles tax accounts, Probate Recording indexes deeds, and Alabama election officials maintain voter records under their own access rules. Historical volumes and name indexes are held by the Alabama Department of Archives and History and the Shelby County Museum & Archives. We bring the verified portals, custodian contacts, coverage dates, and request routes into one Shelby County reference.
What You Will Find Here
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- Records and custodians: the Property Tax Commissioner, Probate divisions, Circuit Clerk, election offices, vital records, and historical repositories
- Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
- Access boundaries: what Alabama law opens, what remains confidential, and which fallback works when no online search exists
Limits of Our Role
This privately operated reference is independent of Shelby County offices, Alabama agencies, courts, libraries, and records custodians. That creates clear limits:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Shelby County
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every link, fee, office detail, or coverage date remains current
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
